Alpine skiing

The ski area in Heutal offers fun on the slopes away from the crowds at all levels of difficulty - just 100 metres from the Heutaler Hof. Three T-bar lifts and a practice slope are ideal for families, leisure skiers and beginners. Real racers also get their money's worth during ski training. Long waiting times and overcrowded pistes are not an issue on your skiing holiday in Heutal.

Cross-country skiing

Glide step by step through the snow-covered winter landscape and feel the tranquillity. A cross-country skiing holiday in Heutal means enjoying over 30 kilometres of groomed trails. With challenging and easy routes. Along streams and forests in a natural paradise. All at over 1,000 metres above sea level right on the Bavarian-Austrian border.

Ski Touring

Natural slopes, clear air and breathtaking silence: this is what attracts ski tourers to Heutal every winter. Surrounded by a unique mountain world, every ski tourer will find a route to suit them. For those who prefer to swap the open terrain for marked pistes, the ski touring route to the Wildalm and Dürrnbachhorn is just the thing.

Tobogganing

Two natural toboggan runs provide an extra dose of family fun. Enjoy the views or fancy an internal family challenge? Anything is possible on the toboggan runs that wind their way through the idyllic landscape. You can rent a toboggan at the hotel or at the mountain cabins.

Ski school & ski rental

The small ski school in Heutal offers ski courses and private lessons for children and adults. Whether it's your first time on skis or you want to train your technique. Here you will find the right ski course in a very personalised atmosphere. The right equipment is easily available from the ski rental shop in Unken.

Mountain cabins in Heutal

On the numerous routes in Heutal - whether in winter or summer - there is also plenty to enjoy. The Wildalm and the Hochalm (both open all year round), the Eudakasa in summer and the Herbstalm in winter each offer a charming and traditional cabin stop.

35 km, 40 minutes drive – Beautiful nature with the famous Königssee lake (lake cruises all year round), the Jennerbahn railway, the Eagle's Nest and the Hintersee and Obersee lakes (please note the season for hiking routes). Also worth seeing: Berchtesgaden salt mine.

35 km, 40 minutes drive – UNESCO World Heritage Site with enchanting old town, Hohensalzburg Fortress, cathedral and Mozart's famous birthplace. Outside Hangar 7 of Red Bull, the Stiegl beer brewery, many shopping opportunities not only in the old town (Designer Outlet, Europark shopping centre). Casino and cinemas.

60 km, 1 hour drive – Impressive high mountain landscape covering 1,856 km2 with the Grossglockner High Alpine Road, the Krimml Waterfalls near Krimml, the Kitzsteinhorn glacier near Kaprun and the Big Five (bearded vulture, golden eagle, marmot, ibex and chamois). Please note the season for hiking routes.

20 km, 30 minutes drive – from the end of May to the beginning of October, a journey into the past of local nature at 1,700 m for young and old - dinosaurs, corals, ammonites and primeval seas right in the border triangle of Tyrol, Salzburg and Bavaria. Playful museum on two levels, beautiful outdoor area with low ropes course and huge observation deck.

25 km, 30 minutes drive – sport climbing at all levels of difficulty is possible in the mountaineering village of Weißbach. On the ‘Platte’ directly in the village centre or in the ‘Upper and Lower Wonderland’ there are more than 70 routes in the 4 to 8c+ range on limestone.

15 km, 20 minutes drive – small village with a beautiful, historic town centre, restaurants and shops (for example for traditional costumes). Loferer Alm with mountain railway, skiing and charming hiking area.

18 km, 25 minutes drive – in the show cave area, which is very well developed for visitors, you can explore the Lamprechtshöhle cave over 392 steps on 700 m of altitude. Be sure to wear sturdy shoes and warm clothing, as the temperature in the cave is between 4° and 6° C. Open daily in summer - Sundays in winter.

25 km, 35 minutes drive  – nestled between the Steinplatte and Loferer Steinberge mountains and in the middle of the Kitzbühel Alps. Offers a variety of surprising mountain experiences such as the emerald green Pillersee lake or the architectural highlight “Jakobskreuz” at the Buchensteinwand.

Family jumps into Lake Zell together

55 km, 1 hour drive – small town directly at the lake (pedal boats can be rented). In Kaprun, the Kitzsteinhorn glacier and the modern ‘Tauern Spa’ thermal spa complex. Golf course in the immediate vicinity.
